Melissa Torres

Co-School Leader, KIPP Corazón Academy

Melissa Torres is the School Leader at KIPP Corazón Lower School. Melissa was born and raised in East Los Angeles, CA and this is her 11th year working in the field of education. Prior to becoming a School Leader, Melissa taught 3rd grade for 4 years at a Catholic School in Santa Fe Springs. She then joined KIPP Promesa Prep in 2016 where she was a founding 2nd grade teacher, founding 3rd grade teacher and Dean for 2 years. After KIPP Promesa she joined the SLF program where she completed her residency at KIPP Comienza Lower School. After completing her residency she then became the School Leader at KIPP Pueblo Unido for 2 years. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and her Masters in Education from Loyola Marymount University. Melissa is dedicated and passionate about this work. Melissa is a wife to her husband Kevin and mother to her baby boy Noah and daughter Sofia. Her goal is to give back to her community by providing access to high quality education and to be a role model for her community and her own children. She believes that education is key and our students can become proud and driven leaders that can positively impact their communities.
