Education for Liberation
KIPP SoCal envisions education as a practice of seeking, sharing, and applying knowledge that contributes to liberating both individuals and our society towards a more just and equitable world.
Our Commitment to Anti-Racism
We know that racism causes environmental stress and imposes academic barriers on students in historically marginalized communities. Our shift towards an anti-racist organization and classrooms will guide our students to make connections between the outside world and the classroom. KIPPsters will learn to:
- Examine what it means to be well-resourced people and how to use their resources to change their own lives and the world around them;
- Address community prejudice, discrimination, and racism, specifically anti-Blackness;
- Build an understanding of cross-cultural allyship;
- Develop global skills & competencies: communication and collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, intercultural competence and citizenship, emotional self-regulation and well-being, and digital literacy.
Becoming An Anti-Racist Organization
In pursuit of our commitment to becoming an Anti-Racist organization, KIPP SoCal Public Schools have adopted Anti-Racist Policy & Standards that acknowledge our power and responsibility to take a leading stance against systemic racism, discrimination, bias, and educational injustice.
Centering Black Lives
Our celebration of Black Lives & Black History extends beyond the month of February. We create engaging, joyful, community responsive learning opportunities for every member of our school communities. Through this work, we create an environment where KIPPsters know that celebrating a beautiful, complex, and complete history of Black people globally lifts our entire community toward liberation for all.
