Yes! 16% of our students receive special education services. KIPP SoCal educates the same or higher percentage of diverse students when compared to traditional district schools, including students with disabilities.
Traditionally, Kindergarten served as the initial step into early childhood education, emphasizing socialization, relationship building, and basic academic skills. However, the landscape has evolved, and today's Kindergarten standards demand a higher level of academic proficiency. Students are expected to grasp letter-sound associations, blend them for reading, count proficiently to 100, and comprehend number combinations up to 10. With Kindergarten becoming more academically intensive, students must possess the attention span and emotional resilience to engage effectively with the curriculum. They need to navigate challenges resiliently, collaborate with peers, and approach learning with confidence to fully absorb the educational experience. Transitional Kindergarten plays a crucial role in preparing our students for this heightened academic environment, laying the foundation for their early learning success.
