Mia Walker

With over 16 years of experience in the field of education, Mia Walker currently holds the position of Assistant School Leader at KIPP Empower Academy. Throughout her nearly decade-long tenure at KIPP Empower, Mia has showcased her adaptability and expertise by serving in various pivotal roles, including as a dedicated 2nd-grade teacher, 3rd-grade teacher, and Dean. Her leadership journey at Empower has been marked by significant milestones, including her roles as the TFA Summer Institute Faculty Advisor in 2018, participant in the KIPP LA Teacher Leader Cohort from 2017 to 2018, and attendee of the KIPP Teacher Leader Intensive in 2017. Additionally, Mia has been an integral part of the Instructional Leadership Team, served as a Grade Level Lead, and fulfilled the role of Grade Level Chair. Her exceptional dedication and contributions to education were further acknowledged when she received the prestigious honor of being named Teacher of the Year.

Before her tenure at KIPP, Mia honed her pedagogical skills while serving as a 6th-grade educator at Bunche Middle School in Compton, and as a 4th-grade teacher at Parent Elementary School in Inglewood, along with a stint as a 6th-grade teacher at ICEF Inglewood Middle Academy. Her academic journey culminated in the attainment of a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies and a Master's degree in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction from California State University Long Beach.

Mia's impact extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her instrumental contributions in various leadership capacities. As a 6th-grade teacher, she was recognized as a Master Teacher and spearheaded the successful implementation of the school's inaugural blended learning program. At Bunche Middle School, Mia not only excelled in teaching a diverse array of subjects but also assumed leadership roles, including serving as a Grade Level Chair and actively participating in the leadership team, School Site Council, and hiring committee. Her commitment to ongoing growth and development led her to participate in esteemed professional development programs such as the KIPP School Leadership Program and the TFA Summer Institute.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Mia finds joy in her culinary pursuits and leisurely beach outings, enriching her life beyond the educational sphere. With a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Mia Walker continues to serve as an inspiring force, shaping the future landscape of education.
