Chris Hofmann
School Leader, KIPP Raíces Academy
Chris Hofmann is the Principal at KIPP Raíces Academy. He graduated from Amherst College with a degree in political science and has a Master of Arts in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University. Chris started his teaching career as an English language assistant in Madrid, Spain. In 2009, he joined KIPP Raíces Academy as an apprentice teacher and has been there ever since. In his tenure, he has helped found two grade levels, developed curricula, acted as interim principal and led school initiatives on family engagement. In 2015, he started the PhotoVoice Project, a school-based group of families and teachers that used photography as a means to make the school’s educational experience more reflective of the community’s values. In 2023, Chris completed the KIPP SoCal School Leader Fellow Program.
He is also an alumnus of the Teach Plus Teaching Policy Fellowship, a teacher leadership group that aims to engage teachers in education policymaking. In collaboration with other classroom teachers, he created a proposal for a state accountability system that was named a finalist in the Fordham’s Institute’s ESSA Accountability Design Competition. He has also written about school accountability systems for the Huffington Post, LA Schools Report and the National Association of State Boards of Education.
On a personal note, Chris was born and raised in Connecticut. He is the youngest of 5 and has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Chris lives with his wife, Annalise, and his three daughters, Kezia, Alex, and Isabelle, in Northeast LA. Kez is in First Grade, and Alex is in TK. On the weekends, he can be found watching tons of soccer, going for a run, and trying to cook something new with Kez and Alex.
