Shane Traister

Shane joined KIPP SoCal Public Schools in November 2022, after over six years managing business intelligence and data analytics at Teach For America’s Org-Wide Learning and Strategy team. At KIPP SoCal, he leads the development and enhancement of staff data systems, focusing on strategic improvements to ensure seamless integration and communication across platforms. His work aims to facilitate data-driven decision-making and support comprehensive reporting and data democratization efforts.

Originally from Pasadena and Altadena, Shane holds a Bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley. He began his career as a 2011 Bay Area corps member for Teach For America, where he taught middle school special education. It was during this time that he developed a passion for using data to improve educational practices, eventually transitioning into the field of data science to help others leverage data for better outcomes. Shane will matriculate in Fall 2024 with his Master's in Analytics from Georgia Tech, furthering his expertise in the field.

Outside of work, Shane lives in Duarte with his wife, Sarah, and their two dogs, Roscoe and Telly. In his free time, he enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons, watching LA Kings hockey, and is trying to read a little more than he did last year. Shane is dedicated to advancing data science as a tool for addressing complex challenges, with a focus on comprehensive, end-to-end solutions.
