We are thrilled to announce that KIPP Promesa Prep has received the prestigious California PBIS Gold Implementation Award for 2024.
This award celebrates schools that excel in implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)—a proactive framework that supports student behavior, promotes a positive school culture, and ultimately improves learning outcomes.
The PBIS framework uses a multi-tiered system to support student behavior and learning. Tier 1 provides universal, school-wide support for all students; Tier 2 offers targeted interventions for students needing additional guidance; and Tier 3 delivers individualized support for students with more significant behavioral needs.
Schools awarded the CA PBIS Gold Recognition exemplify excellence in applying PBIS core practices and demonstrate a strong commitment to data-driven strategies. Schools that are successful in PBIS implementation recognize the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with students to foster nurturing school communities.
At KIPP Promesa, PBIS is integrated into daily routines to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive. Teachers are equipped with the essential tools and expertise to effectively implement tiered support, ensuring a seamless and consistent approach across classrooms.
“As we prepared for this, our goal was clear: every student should know and demonstrate our expectations with real-life examples,” said KIPP Promesa Dean Mayra Delgado, who oversees PBIS implementation at the school. “Achieving this took a system-wide commitment, built over years of identifying our strengths, addressing growth areas, and continually refining our approach.”
Tier 1 systems at KIPP Promesa provide initiatives like Promesa Points, PBIS tickets, zen-zones, and a “right way vs. wrong way” approach to reinforce positive behaviors. Tier 1 initiatives also include daily raffles and a school-wide store to celebrate students who exemplify school values. Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions offer individualized strategies for students needing additional support, including behavior support plans and token tracking.
