Celebrating the School That Love Built: KIPP Compton Community School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

PRESS RELEASE

Compton, CA — October 27, 2021 — KIPP Compton Community School, a TK-3* charter public school, will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on November 1, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. celebrating the newly constructed Wolff Family Campus — the "School that Love Built" — and the incredible community of individuals who made the dream of KIPP Compton a reality. This is a much awaited and welcomed celebration that was postponed due to the COVID-19 global health pandemic.

Previously co-located with other schools since 2018, KIPP Compton now has a permanent home at 1650 W 134th St, Compton, CA 90222.

With 33,790 square feet of campus, students can enjoy a turf-lined outdoor area with a super fun play structure for all ages, a great multi-purpose room, dozens of classrooms and rooms for KIPP Compton’s specialties, a mural that represents the power of people created by a talented local South Central L.A. muralist, state of the art technology in classrooms — all designed to more than meet the needs of the school community.

The campus is beyond a dynamic new space, it’s a symbol of the strength of the school community and the remarkable dedication that teachers, students, and parents/guardians have displayed over the years!

"We believe that our school belongs to the people of Compton. We will source partnerships to help alleviate barriers to learning that our students may encounter, and help provide for the community, said Dr. LeAnna Majors, Founding School Leader at KIPP Compton.

With the start of the 2021-2022 school year, KIPP Compton was fully enrolled, serving over 450 elementary students and their families. Despite the challenges that remain in light of the global pandemic, the KIPP Compton team has remained focused on creating a loving and academically excellent school that is preparing students to go to and through college and career.

“This place feels like home. It is a place where we can be. We can make mistakes. We can have successes. We can share kind words. … We work, create, plan, and dream. We ultimately find a way or make one. This is the work of founding a school,” shared Dr. Majors.

As a joyful collaborative, through rigorous teaching and learning, strengths-based character education and trusting relationships, students will excel to pursue the paths they choose — college, career, and beyond — as we lead others in realizing local and global communities that are equitable for all people.
