MEDIA ADVISORY
Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2024) — In honor of World Art Day, KIPP SoCal Public Schools is proud to announce it will continue its 18-year tradition of celebrating student creativity at the Museum of KIPP Art (MOKA) showcase and auction on Friday, May 31, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Spotify LA. This year's auction aims to raise $121,000 to provide expanded learning opportunities, including immersive art programs, for more than 10,000 KIPP SoCal students in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Established in 2006 by KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory educator Andy Hahn, MOKA is an annual art exhibition that showcases KIPP SoCal's student artists' passion, imagination, and originality while underscoring the importance of providing a comprehensive arts education. To enhance the immersive experience, students share insights into their creative processes to engage attendees and potential bidders.
Over 100+ young artists from 19 KIPP SoCal elementary and middle schools have produced art pieces reflecting this year's "Kaleidoscope" theme. The theme emphasizes the significance of viewing life from diverse perspectives, highlighting how each student's unique viewpoint shapes their collective educational experiences. The students also drew inspiration from various art movements, such as Cubism and Minimalism.
